New Subaru Forester photos released prior to launch at NAIAS
by Auto123.com
Subaru today released the first official photos of its third-generation Forester prior to its upcoming launch at the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS). Set for sale as a 2009 model, the re-designed crossover utility vehicle features enhanced safety and smoothness housed in a dynamic looking new body.

Photos suggest a smoothed-out and re-sculpted version of the last generation model's shape, a Tribeca-style grille and headlight treatment, headlamp washers and a fender-mounted rearview mirror- though the latter two items are likely not destined for our shores.

A lengthened wheelbase rides on the automakers famous symmetrical All Wheel Drive system, suspended by a new double-wishbone rear-suspension which improves crash performance, interior space and ride quality.

Standard safety features include standard side-curtain airbags with rollover compatibility and a Vehicle Dynamics Control (VDC) stability and traction management system. Four wheel disc brakes with ABS are also standard.

Subaru says the Forester is powered by revised 2.5 litre boxer engines, available in naturally aspirated and turbocharged variants- though further details are unavailable at this time. Look for more information closer to the new Forester's on-sale date this spring.
